Freedom, opportunity, and dignity should be at the core of our immigration system. But our current system isn’t set up to uphold these values. Instead, people are deprived of their liberty, separated from their loved ones, and excluded from their communities by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Lives are in danger in ICE and CBP custody and the We Are Home campaign is committed to advocating against policies that inflict pain and terror on communities nationwide.
Help educate our collective audiences on the harms caused by ICE and CBP and underscore that it’s essential to dismantle the abusive immigration enforcement system alongside our push for citizenship for all. Many thanks to our friends at Indivisible for producing this video series for We Are Home.
Instead of deportations, Biden’s DHS should prioritize the safety and freedom of immigrant communities, keeping loved ones together, and helping all of our communities thrive. President Biden: #ProtectDontDeport our community members!
Our current detention system deprives people who are immigrants of their liberty, separates them from their loved ones, and excludes them from their communities. This goes against our deepest values. Immigration detention as a whole is unnecessary and rife with systemic abuses. Simply put, people navigating their immigration case should be able to do so with their families and in community — not behind bars.
Every human being has the right to be safe & to seek safety. But today, our asylum system criminalizes the most vulnerable and turns people back to danger. We need a system that lives up to our values and welcomes with dignity. President Biden promised to restore humanity in the way we treat refugees. But his administration is still continuing Trump era policies that turn away people seeking protection. We can do better.
Tens of thousands of people, mostly Black and brown, have been jailed and deported during the Biden administration that pledged to respect immigrant rights, family unity and people fleeing harm and persecution. Deportations continue in significant numbers while DHS has delayed promised reforms. This is unacceptable! DHS must pause the deportation of families and individuals now. DHS must stay people’s cases so they can remain in their homes and keep families intact. Instead of detention and deportations, Biden’s DHS should prioritize the safety and freedom of immigrant communities, keeping loved ones together, and helping all of our communities thrive.
Policing & incarceration, by design, systemically criminalize Black & brown people. People who are disproportionately impacted by this unjust system are then “punished twice” with the threat of detention and deportation. Biden must end the police-to-deportation pipeline!
